Elizabeth has been a thought leader and instigator in the financial planning profession for over 30 years.  A CFP® professional since 1991, she was a part of the Pioneers think tank community, along with Dick Wagner, Rick Kahler and many of the leaders in the financial life planning community, that delved deeply into what it means to BE and Do financial planning and practice FP 3.0 in the 21st century.

In 2013 Elizabeth retired from her financial planning practice to focus working ON the profession rather than IN it, through her coaching practice, consulting to FPA and teaching in several financial planning graduate programs.  She currently is enjoying her encore career, focusing on her private coaching, and consulting practice, helping the next generation of leaders deepen their competencies, find their authentic brand, and vision and elevate their value and impact.

Elizabeth is on the faculty of Golden Gate University within the MS in Advanced Planning program where she teaches the course she created, Introduction to Financial Life Planning.

She was a 2018 recipient of the Heart of Financial Planning award for her work on behalf of the profession and served as President of the FPA in 2004.  She has facilitated multiple gatherings of FPA NexGen conferences, as a mentor for the FPA Residency program and has co-chaired the FPA Annual Advanced Retreat multiple times.  Elizabeth has contributed to the Journal of Financial Planning and been a frequent speaker and workshop leader, nationally and internationally for over 25 years.

Elizabeth and her husband Michael J. Smith, a retired CFP® and leader in the profession, recently moved to the small mountain community of Tellico Plains, TN, in the Cherokee National Forest to be closer to rivers, waterfalls and woodlands.
