Machine Psychology 3:00pm 5:00pm 3203 Over long periods of history, humans have delegated the grunt work to others- such as work animals, less fortunate humans and finally machines. Throughout that history, all the thinking or brainwork was the preserve of humans. However, with the rapid advancements in AI (Artificial Intelligence) and LLM (Large Language Models), humans can now delegate the thinking too. Traditional Psychology studies the human mind and its functions. In 2024, a new discipline of Psychology is emerging – called Machine Psychology which deals with thinking process of AI and its functions.

While this field is still very new, there is a great opportunity for students of Psychology to get in on the ground floor and start learning this science and play a role in creation of AI to expose how AI thinks and helping AI to think in a constructive way. Just as humans can have psychological conditions that can enhance or inhibit their behavior is society, we have seen that so can AI. And someone needs to start making sense of all that. This talk will give a brief overview of this exciting emerging field and stimulate your thinking on how you can leverage your Psychology education in new ways.

From Surviving to Thriving: Recipes for Life 1:00pm 2:00pm 3201 Speaker: Nate Hinerman, PhD, LMFT

Humans are arguably the most profoundly social species on the planet. As we evolved in the Serengeti, exile was a death sentence. Causes have effects. And, if we don’t get the supplies that we need, bit by bit, it’s like we’re living on a thin soup – you can survive, you can make it, but there’s a hollowness, an emptiness, inside.

This talk will explore new “recipes” for updating our sense of being-in-the-world, even amidst the “soup” of difficult experiences. This talk will help participants learn ways to reframe negative experience and unhook from the unhelpful, and instead exchange these clouds for blue sky with more skillful means.
