California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA to Deliver Keynote at GGU’s 2025 Commencement

Fiona MaGolden Gate University is excited to announce that California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA will serve as the keynote speaker for this year’s Commencement ceremony, to be held on Sunday, April 27th at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. A proud GGU alumna with a Master’s in Taxation, State Treasurer Ma’s extraordinary career in public service is a testament to the values of leadership, public service, and community that define our university. 

First elected in 2018 with more votes than any other candidate for Treasurer in California’s history, State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA is not only the first woman of color and the first woman Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to hold this role, but also a trailblazer in financial leadership. She oversees more than $2 trillion in payments each year, manages a $90 billion investment portfolio, and is responsible for $85 billion in state bonds. Her leadership has brought innovative solutions to critical issues like affordable housing, clean energy, and access to K-12 and higher education. 

Before becoming California State Treasurer, Ma served in various prominent roles, including as Chair of the California Board of Equalization, where she helped lead the biggest reforms for accountability and efficiency in that agency’s history, and as a member of the California State Assembly, where she worked across the aisle to pass groundbreaking legislation. 

In honor of her outstanding contributions, State Treasurer Ma will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree during the commencement ceremony.
