Success Stories

At Golden Gate University, our students’ resilience and determination continue to inspire. The Braden Scholars Program stands as a testament to how transformative support can shape not just individuals, but entire communities. This program is made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Bruce Braden (MBA, Taxation 1974), whose contributions are helping our students overcome significant barriers to achieve their dreams.

Thanks to Braden Scholars Program, GGU is currently supporting more than 80 highly motivated, working professionals who face the challenge of balancing jobs, school, and family life. One student, Avalon Wright, exemplifies the spirit of perseverance that defines Golden Gate University. After a 20-year delay in her educational journey due to financial constraints, Avalon graduated with honors in May 2024 with a degree in accounting. Today, she is pursuing her Master’s in Taxation at GGU, preparing for the CPA exam, and running her own accounting business. Avalon’s success is just one example of the remarkable impact the Braden Scholars Program has on students’ lives.

More About Avalon & her GGU Journey: Avalon Wright is an accomplished entrepreneur, accounting professional, and advocate for financial literacy and business transformation. With over 15 years of experience, she has owned and operated a successful bookkeeping and accounting practice since 2007, guiding businesses across various industries. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Avalon moved to New York 25 years ago and later to San Francisco, where she discovered GGU. The Braden scholarship allowed her to complete her degree, reinforcing her commitment to professional excellence and community impact.

The Braden Scholars Program has empowered students across a wide range of disciplines, from taxation and accounting to business analytics and a variety of business-related degree programs. These scholars, like Avalon, have turned their aspirations into reality thanks to the support of donors who believe in the power of education.

This program has helped students thrive in ways that would otherwise be impossible. The diverse range of Braden Scholars includes recipients pursuing Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees, all maintaining an average GPA of 3.6 while balancing work and family obligations. Their academic excellence reflects the extraordinary potential of GGU students and the impact of this crucial support.

Together, we are changing lives.
