The Taxation Program

Golden Gate University has earned a reputation for providing the most comprehensive and applicable tax education available today. Our tax program is the largest and one of the most respected graduate tax programs in the country, with many of the Big Four firms hiring Golden Gate University graduates and regularly sending their employees to the university to update their tax education.

Our programs stress a real-world education. They are highly focused and prepare you to be a knowledgeable tax professional. The programs are designed to provide you with the opportunity to gain a thorough and current knowledge of tax law concepts and practices, as well as trends of the discipline in an environment that promotes the development of analytic and communication skills.

The School of Taxation offers a master of science degree in taxation and four graduate-level certificates: taxation, international taxation, estate planning and advanced studies in taxation. Our programs are offered in a variety of formats: full time, part time and online. Our full-time program, which commences in late July/early August, enables you to earn the MS degree in only nine months by attending intensive day classes in San Francisco. The program typically culminates in mid-April with a 10-week tax-season internship. In addition, you may earn the MS degree by taking evening classes in our part-time programs offered at our sites throughout California and in Seattle.

For those interested in gaining a graduate education without having to physically attend classes, the School of Taxation offers, through Golden Gate University's CyberCampus, the master of science in taxation degree and the graduate certificate in taxation in asynchronous, interactive web-based classes. Students learn through study of prepared web modules and extensive online classroom interaction.

Continuing Education Credit

The School of Taxation provides one of the most cost-effective sources of high-quality tax education. Each academic unit equals 15 CPE hours, or 45 hours for the typical 3-unit course. For lawyers, MCLE credit may also be earned.

The MS in taxation also fulfills the California State Bar's educational requirement for Certified Specialists in Taxation Law.

Student Life

At Golden Gate University, the classroom atmosphere, whether in person or online, is dynamic and demanding. The majority of our students work full-time in accounting or in tax-related positions, and they bring their experiences and knowledge to the classroom. We encourage our students to settle for nothing less than intelligent, mature and well-developed classroom discussions.
