Nicholas Dirks is an internationally renowned historian and anthropologist who currently serves as President and CEO of the New York Academy of Sciences. He was the 10th Chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley, where he launched key initiatives in data science, arts, and undergraduate education, and strengthened partnerships with global institutions. Prior to Berkeley, Nicholas held leadership roles at Columbia University and the University of Michigan. He earned his B.A. from Wesleyan University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Nicholas is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has received numerous academic honors, including the Lionel Trilling Award and Guggenheim Fellowship.
