Finding community and opportunity at Golden Gate
John J. Davids (JD ‘65) found community and opportunity through Golden Gate’s evening law program. His $100,000 bequest will strengthen the scholarship that bears his name.
Barry B. Daniels (BA ’64) earned his degree from GGU’s Ageno School of Business in 1964, in classrooms filled with working adults. He built a career in California’s construction industry, spending twenty years with Endurance Metal Products and twenty-five years with Collier Building Specialties before retiring in 2010.
Nearly two decades after Barry graduated, his wife Joanne returned to the classroom. As a reentry student at Golden Gate in the mid-1980s, she received a two-year scholarship that made a lasting impression. To Joanne, the award represented more than financial assistance. It was a meaningful investment in her potential at a stage of life when few institutions were willing to make one. The couple’s shared experiences at Golden Gate deepened their connection to the university and ultimately inspired their commitment to give back.
Barry has made a gift to Golden Gate every year for more than 25 years, a record recognized by membership in the university’s Silver Society. In 2012, he went further, committing $500,000 to GGU’s general endowment through his estate plans. His bequest will support future generations of students, including adults who, like Joanne, return to school later in life and need someone to believe in them.
Barry is a member of the Bridge Society, which recognizes alumni and friends who have included Golden Gate University in their wills, trusts, or other estate plans.
If Golden Gate played a part in your story, we’d welcome a conversation about how a planned gift can help write someone else’s.
