Dr. Rao is the chief technology officer at Opos, a California-based startup devoted to delivering a SaaS platform for opioid regulatory compliance and patient monitoring at scale enabling primary care and pain specialty opioid prescribers to service patients who are suffering from chronic pain. Opos technology (with three patents pending and several others in the pipeline) brings patients, doctors, healthcare professionals, regulators, and pain management expertise together with leading-edge AI and knowledge processing structures to provide real-time access, diagnosis, and treatment processes. Dr. Rao’s role is to bring new breakthrough AI, based on the emerging general theory of information, to integrate existing pain management knowledge, systems, and processes to provide information in real-time to where it is most needed, and reduce the knowledge gap between patients and their health care providers.
Dr. Rao is currently, also a “Distinguished Adjunct Professor” at Golden Gate University, and an “Adjunct Associate Professor” at the Dominican University of California. His recent research brings autopoietic and cognitive behaviors into digital information processing systems pushing the boundaries of current AI and business process automation technologies. His 2011 book “Designing a New Class of Distributed Systems” and several recently published papers explore the viability of self-managing and intelligent software systems and the design and application of next-generation machine intelligence based on emerging knowledge engineering technologies.
