MATH 1

Quantitative Reasoning with AI

3 Unit(s)

Develops the quantitative reasoning skills required to interpret, analyze, and apply numerical information in professional and civic contexts where AI tools perform routine computation. Students learn to frame problems mathematically, use AI for modeling and analysis, interpret outputs critically, and make sound decisions informed by quantitative evidence. Topics include rates, percentages, probability, risk, data interpretation, modeling, and the limitations of quantitative tools. Emphasis is placed on interpretation and judgment rather than procedural calculation, with attention to recognizing when AI-generated results are incorrect or misleading. Students complete a scenario analysis project integrating AI-assisted modeling with independent quantitative judgment. No prerequisites.
