SAN FRANCISCO — Beginning this Fall semester, Golden Gate University will expand its San Francisco presence across two campuses: GGU’s Downtown Campus, located in San Francisco’s Academic Village, and GGU’s Parkmerced Campus, co-located with San Francisco State University.

All GGU students will have access to both campuses and their full range of amenities, including dining, libraries and study spaces, recreation and fitness centers, and modern classrooms equipped with current instructional technology. Student housing options will also be available at both campuses.

“Golden Gate University has been part of San Francisco for over 170 years,” said Brent White, President of Golden Gate University. “This expansion builds on that history by extending our presence across two locations, one in downtown, and one at Parkmerced, near Lake Merced and Ocean Beach. These two campuses give our students broader access to the city’s academic, professional, and recreational resources while expanding our presence in San Francisco.”

The move also reconnects GGU with an important chapter in its history. The university takes its name from its early home at 220 Golden Gate Avenue, where it was located beginning in 1910 and remained for more than five decades before moving to Mission Street in the 1960s. GGU’s new downtown location at 333 Golden Gate Avenue marks a return to these roots.

At the same time, Golden Gate University’s strategy to co-locate with other San Francisco-based universities reflects an innovative model for the future of higher education. By partnering with existing institutions and integrating into active academic environments, GGU is expanding student access to high-quality facilities and campus life while creating efficiencies through shared infrastructure.

“With more than 8,000 students worldwide, Golden Gate University’s presence will contribute to the vitality and energy of both campuses,” said Edward Roekaert, GGU Executive Vice President and Provost. “At the same time, these modern campuses offer outstanding facilities and amenities that will provide GGU students with an excellent campus experience.”

GGU will maintain designated offices and student support space at both campuses, while also providing students, faculty, and staff with access to shared common areas and campus amenities.

“The Academic Village was created to bring institutions of higher education together to offer interdisciplinary training and collaboration and to add vibrancy and energy to the heart of the city,” said UC Law SF Chancellor & Dean David Faigman. “Welcoming Golden Gate University as a partner is a meaningful step in realizing that vision.”

“Golden Gate University is a longstanding San Francisco institution that shares many of our core values,” said Lynn Mahoney, President of San Francisco State University. “We are excited to co-locate GGU’s Parkmerced with our campus and look forward to welcoming GGU’s students, faculty, and staff to our vibrant academic ecosystem.”

Beginning in the Fall, the Parkmerced Campus will host classes for undergraduate and Psychology programs. The Downtown Campus will host all other classes.
