Dr. David J. Fike will retire from his role as Golden Gate University’s seventh president on June 30, 2025, after nearly ten years of service, the Board of Trustees announced in February.
President Fike’s tenure as president of GGU has been marked by significant accomplishments, including expanding the university’s programs and international reach, as well as increasing enrollment, which has more than doubled during his leadership. Under his stewardship, the university also raised $35 million in donations and established the Helen Diller Center for U.S. Military Service.
“President Fike’s leadership has been transformative,” said Melinda Dunn, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “He has led the university through a period of unparalleled challenges, expanding programs and fostering global partnerships that have strengthened GGU’s position in higher education.”
In remarks to the GGU community, Dr. Fike expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the university, highlighting the impact of GGU on students’ lives. “It has been a tremendous honor to lead Golden Gate University for the past decade,” Fike said. “I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and finding meaningful ways to stay connected to higher education.”
In addition to his service to GGU staff, faculty, students, alumni, and supporters, Dr. Fike has been a stalwart defender of higher education beyond the GGU community. “We are immensely grateful to David Fike for his valuable experience and perspective, including his prior service as chair of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities Executive Committee,” said AICCU President Kristen Soares. “His years of steadfast advocacy and dedication have been instrumental in advancing our student-focused mission and strengthening the voice of California’s independent, nonprofit colleges and universities.”
The Board of Trustees has begun the search for GGU’s next president. President Fike has graciously offered to continue to serve as president until the completion of a successful transition. More details will be provided as the search for the next president progresses. We look forward to a celebration of President Fike’s leadership and legacy, together with the GGU community, at a later date.
