Annual Alumni Association Awards

Each fall, the Alumni Association of Golden Gate University honors graduates of the university and other members of the GGU community who have achieved excellence in their chosen field or have somehow made a difference in the community in which they live.

Nominations for Awards

A committee of the Alumni Association board of directors approves nominations in May. Winners of these awards are recognized at the Alumni Awards Luncheon held annually the third Wednesday in October. Awardees must be present to accept their awards.

We invite you to nominate GGU alumni you believe to be deserving of the Alumnus/Alumna of the Year, Distinguished GGU Service or Community Service awards. Nominations must be submitted no later than May 15 of the award year.

Please note: Nonalumni members of the GGU community are eligible for the Distinguished GGU Service Award.

Descriptions of each award, suggested qualifications and a list of past winners follow:
Alumnus/Alumna of the Year
is awarded to an alumnus or alumna whose professional achievements and contributions to the community are worthy of recognition.

Qualifications:
  • Holds a leadership position in a notable distinguished business, tax or law firm
  • Personifies and supports the GGU mission
  • Increases the reputation and visibility of GGU by association
  • Performs community service

Amicus Award
Given to a person whose efforts have resulted in significant contributions to the university's resources and, thereby, to its educational capabilities and services.

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates leadership by making a meaningful gift to GGU
  • Personifies and supports the GGU mission
  • Increases the reputation and visibility of GGU by association

Distinguished GGU Service Award
is presented to a GGU faculty or staff member for demonstrating exemplary leadership and outstanding service.

Qualifications:
  • Performs a leadership role at the university
  • Has a broad sphere of influence within the entire GGU community
  • Is a long-standing faculty or staff member
  • Is highly regarded by his or her colleagues

Community Service Award
is given in recognition of exemplary leadership and outstanding service contributions to the community.

  • Makes a personal or professional commitment to giving back to the community
  • Personifies and supports the GGU mission
  • Increases the reputation and visibility of GGU by association

Rising Star Award
is awarded to an alumnus or alumna whose professional achievements and contributions to the community are of exceptional stature considering the individual's recent (10 years or less) graduation from the university.

Qualifications:

  • Increases the reputation and visibility of GGU by association

Volunteer of the Year
recognizes an individual(s) who demonstrates exemplary service to the university through volunteer activities.

Awardees will be notified individually by June 30 by GGU Advancement staff. Names of annual alumni awardees will be publicized on Aug. 15 when invitations to the Annual Alumni Awards luncheon are mailed.
